drabble "Paths" G

Title: Paths
Author: Illwynd
Characters: Boromir
Rating: G
Book/Source: LotR
Disclaimer: Tolkien gets the credit for the good. I take the blame for the bad.
Summary: Why did Boromir insist on going to seek Imladris?
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] tolkien_weekly challenge on Astronomy. x-posted there. Yeah, fits the challenge only loosely, but it also illuminates a possible answer to a question [livejournal.com profile] cressida0201 and I were discussing over at BoG.

Late at night, the stars looked different; the constellations had traced their old paths. He usually didn’t see them thus, but he had woken early from a dream just like the one Faramir had dreamt, and so different from the nightmare images of defeat that filled his sleep of late. He stared out as the stars crept towards morning. If he could follow this dream, it would give him a worthy purpose other than fighting a losing battle. It would steal his despair and lead him through the darkness. Come morning, he would tell Denethor; he would go to Imladris.

That's very interesting! Yes, I can definitely see it, Boromir getting tired of defeat and going on a quest that would offer some hope. Great!

Heeh, thanks. I know I'd feel that way in his situation... but then again I get the heebie-jeebies over night-vision orcs, too... ^__~
